A bug tracking software, also known as defect tracking system, is a software that keeps track of reported bugs in software development projects. Bug tracking is the process of logging and monitoring bugs or errors during software testing. Moreover, some bug tracking software allow end-users to enter bug reports directly. It assists the software developers by means of collecting and maintaining data about software defects that have been reported via various channels (bugs, e-mail, internet, phone calls). The data is then used to resolve bugs as well as to create software that meets the requirements of the end users.

Furthermore, bug tracking software aids companies in finding out what errors are being made in their products and services and in solving them as soon as possible. It is an essential piece of technology that enhances the quality of any product or service. It gives quick overviews of bug issues that arise with the product or service in question. In short, it gives the company an insight into what is wrong with its products and services, enabling the company to prioritize on its repairs. A great advantage that bug tracking software offers is that it helps solve problems as they occur. This means that the tool can help identify problems before they become critical.

A bug tracking software can also be used to analyze the source of problem, whether it is due to human error or a defect in the product or service, and pinpoint the cause of such problems. This will enable the product or service provider to fix any problems, thus saving the customer a lot of money that may have been spent fixing the same problem in the future. Another advantage that bug tracking software offers is that it can help end-users save money and time, both of which are very important to any business. The software performs in-depth bug analysis and gives visibility on the overall direction of the project.

Thus, there is an increasing demand for bug tracking software worldwide. In September 2021, Microsoft (US) released a security update to fix the last remaining PrintNightmare zero-day vulnerabilities that allowed attackers to gain administrative privileges on Windows devices. Moreover, in May 2021, Applitools (US) announced a new Rally integration as part of the Eyes 10.11 release. This integration allows developers and QA engineers to easily log and manage all data collected about bugs, and how to fix them, in a single workflow.
